Landscaping

Small projects, big difference.

Not every yard needs a total redo. Sometimes it’s fresh mulch, a strip of new sod, a gravel side yard, or a flagstone path to the back gate. SNAP handles the projects that make a yard feel finished.

In Kyle, the ground under a project matters. East of I-35, blackland clay moves with the weather. Head west toward the Hill Country and rock sits close to the surface. Get the base right and everything on top of it lasts longer.

Tree trimming is on the list too. See the oak note below.

Did you know?

Kyle sits at the edge of the Balcones Escarpment. East of I-35 it’s deep blackland clay that swells after a rain. Head a few miles west toward the Hill Country and limestone can sit just inches under the grass. Same town, two very different yards.

Questions

Kyle landscaping questions

When is the best time to lay sod in Kyle?

Spring through early fall, while warm-season grass is actively growing and can root in. Sod can go down in the heat of summer, but it needs a lot more water to get established. A spring install gives the roots a full season before the first hard summer.

How deep should mulch be?

About three inches in beds. Thinner than that and weeds push through. Around trees, keep mulch pulled back from the trunk instead of piling it up against the bark.

When can you trim my oak trees?

Outside of February through June whenever possible. The Texas A&M Forest Service advises against pruning oaks in that window because of oak wilt, and it recommends painting every fresh cut on an oak right away, no matter the season.

Grass keeps dying in my side yard. Should I switch to gravel?

Often, yes. Side yards tend to get little sun and a lot of foot traffic, and turf struggles with both. A gravel path with a clean edge looks sharp and never needs mowing.
